Janice F. Manning (Jan) Of Alexander, NY formerly of Newfane, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, May 4, 2012 at Crossroads House, Batavia, NY, and went to be with her loving husband to build their house in heaven. Her late husband of sixty years, Emmett C. “Cork” Manning passed away February 26, 2010. Born in Jamestown, NY, June 5, 1929, Jan was a daughter of the late Vernon and Mildred Ford. The best years of her life were raising her four children, Richard (Dick), Sally, Sandra (Sandy), and Susan (Sue). She gained another daughter when Dick married Susan, and three more sons when Sally married Rick, Sandy married Gary and Sue married Kent. She was an accomplished cook and gardener, who loved to grow flowers, especially African violets and roses. She took pride in the rose garden she created and cared for at the tree farm in Newfane that she and “Cork” owned and operated until 1993. In their retirement they lived on Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks for many years. Loving mother of Richard (Susan) Manning of Northville, NY, Sally (Richard) Sorensen of Wesley Chapel, FL, Sandra (Gary) DeVoe of Alexander, NY and Susan (Kent) Nierendorf of Hollis, NH. Proud grandmother of two granddaughters, Jennifer Licata and Sara DeVoe; and eight grandsons Thomas and Jonathan Manning, Christopher, Scott (Priscilla) and Eric Sorensen, Chad (Courtney) DeVoe, and Trevor and Justin Nierendorf. Also proud great-grandma of two great granddaughters Sydney and Adrienne Licata, and with a third great-granddaughter on the way. Sister of Joyce (Irving) Manning of Hopedale, MA and Beverly (William) Theis of Georges Mill, NH. Sister in law of the late Anita and Irving Manning. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. 2670 Main St. Newfane, NY WEDNESDAY from 4-7 PM where funeral services will be held THURSDAY at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria, NY.
